About Troop 401

Troop 401 is sponsored by The American School in London, 1 Waverley Place, London, NW8 0NP, United Kingdom.

Troop 401 is a member of the Transatlantic Council, which was founded in May 1950.  The American School was founded the following year in the Spring of 1951 and its first class of nine boys already included one boy scout.  We formed a girls Troop in February 2019.

Our troops include boys and girls from schools all over the London metropolitan area and from a variety of nationalities.  They are Troop 401B and Troop 401G, respectively.  Collectively we simply refer to both as "Troop 401".

Philosophy – Troop 401 is dedicated to the fulfilment of the Mission and Vision of the Boy Scouts of America and places a strong emphasis on providing the tools and training for young men and women to learn to make ethical decisions while having fun and adventure.

Mission – The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Ethos – Troop 401 is open-minded, modern and welcoming.   Scouts and adult leaders strive for integrity, respect, caring, and co-operation in all they do.

Adult Leaders – The Troop has an active parent community with many moms and dads supporting the troop in both leadership positions and working directly with the scouts.

Troop meetings are held most Mondays when school is in session, at ASL in St Johns Wood, from 7-8:30 pm. Campouts and other outdoor activities are one weekend per month, with a 4-day excursion to the Alps in October and a week-long summer camp.
