Background Checks for Parents and Leaders

BSA Youth Protection Mission Statement

True youth protection can be achieved only through the focused commitment of everyone in Scouting.  It is the mission of Youth Protection volunteers and professionals to work within the Boy Scouts of America to maintain a culture of Youth Protection awareness and safety at the national, regional, area, council, district, and unit levels.

All Pack 175 Cub Scout parents are required to complete Youth Protection Training through the BSA website.  Click here to login and take Youth Protection training . You do not have to be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America to take Youth Protection training. Once your training is complete, email a copy of the certificate to LondonCubPack175@gmail.com

DBS Background Checks for All Parents

Our chartered organization, The American School in London, requires all Pack and Troop parents to complete Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) with Child Barred List checks.  DBS checks are UK criminal record checks and the Enhanced check with Barred List check includes an additional check on whether the applicant is barred from working with children.

As for our policy on renewing/expiring DBS checks, all parents are asked to repeat the DBS check every three years, or when there has been a break in your participation of 6 months or more (not including the summer vacation).

You will receive an invitation from Disclosure Services in order to apply for a DBS check.  We will let you know before these go out so that you are ready for them.

Supporting documentation:

  • There are specific requirements for the supporting documentation as outlined in the guidelines.  We are required to check these in order to verify your identity.   Note that if you have more than one citizenship and will be using an EU passport as one of your supporting documents, then you should select that country as your citizenship in the beginning.

  • This can be done either in person at a Troop or Pack meeting by either Amanda Shackett or Laura Beal.

  • We are not using Veri-fy.

If you have any questions or require further information, please contact either Amanda Shackett or Laura Beal.

When you're doing your application, please keep these items in mind:

  • You need to do an Enhanced check

  • Workforce type = Child workforce

  • Position = Unsup Boy Scout Helper

  • The position is voluntary

Alternatively, you can upload the documents to a secure dropbox location.  Access to the Dropbox folder is strictly limited and documents will not be retained once they are used to verify your application.
